The other day I was having a conversation with one of my dearest friends regarding the way that nothing changes as to how the younger generation views elders in the US.
As Jack Weinberg said in the 1960s “never trust anyone over 30”.
My friends and I are now well over 30, and Weinberg is 82.
In discussing our home cities on the West Coast, (that is undergoing the worst drought in 1200 years) this is what she wrote to me: People were willing enough to dismiss old/vulnerable folks during COVID when they weren’t an actual drain on resources. In 20 years, I can see people and institutions making a calculated decision… ration water to old folk’s homes, etc.
I brought up that this was the basis of almost every Earthbound dystopian book or movie. The premise being that there will not be enough to go around and choices have to be made.
There is another arc here, however, and that is wealth disparity.
