I was struck by an article in the New York Times that more Chinese immigrants are attempting to cross the border into the US than ever before.
Since the 1950s, when the UN began compiling statistics, China has had more people leaving their country than arriving, but the numbers are now higher than ever and growing.
According to the Times, “The migrants are part of an exodus of citizens who have grown frustrated with harsh restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic and the direction of Xi Jinping’s authoritarian government.”
But they are also coming because China has a severe economic problem.
